After Trump assassination attempt – Cobra boss: “There is never 100% security”

Date:

Former US President Donald Trump was shot from a distance of 137 meters by Thomas Crooks. Despite the strictest security measures. How could this happen? And how safe are politicians in Austria? krone.tv spoke to the director of the Cobra task force, Bernhard Treibenreif.

“In the US, the investigations are in full swing,” confirms the Cobra director. “There are many testimonies that now all have to be evaluated. A special evaluation committee will be set up, as would happen in Europe.” This committee will be crucial to understanding how the assassin was able to get so close to Trump. The video footage shows how Trump’s security forces reacted immediately when the shots were fired. “The direct protection officers acted correctly,” praises director Trebenreif. “They immediately covered the protection officer and wanted to evacuate him. This is standard practice, drilled.”

Eyewitnesses warned
Several eyewitnesses report that they had warned the police in advance. “If someone reports something suspicious, the police must respond,” the Cobra official said. “Perhaps there was too little time to clarify this. That will also be part of the investigation.”

Treibenreif could not confirm whether the killer was a trained marksman: “137 meters is a long distance. Even with a long gun and a scope, this is not easy. But the counter-precision marksmen reacted quickly and took him out.”

International cooperation is central
The Cobra director emphasizes the importance of international cooperation: “The global personal protection units regularly exchange information. We eagerly await the findings of our American colleagues.” This cooperation is essential because police work is becoming increasingly international.

Safety in Austria
“There is never 100% certainty,” the director says. “In Austria, personal protection is organized by the state and coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior.” Here too, preparatory work is crucial: “Identifying threats and security inspections are a large part of the work.” The director says of the situation in Austria: “There is currently an abstract threat, but no specific threats. If we have information, action is taken immediately.”
