A surfer was attacked by a shark on one of Perth’s most popular beaches in Western Australia. One of the predator’s teeth got stuck in the man’s leg.
The surfer was bitten in the leg by the predatory fish on Wednesday evening (local time) at Trigg Beach – just about 15 kilometres from the city centre, The West Australian newspaper reported, citing the fisheries authority.
Exact shark species unclear
It was said to be a relatively small shark, but the exact species was unclear. It was the second shark attack this month on Australia’s west coast. Media reported, citing the man’s family, that doctors had stitched up the wound and removed a shark tooth from the leg. However, the injuries are not life-threatening. Authorities urged swimmers to be extremely careful on the beach.
Just ten days ago, a man was attacked by a predatory fish while spearfishing near Coral Bay, about 1,100 kilometres north of Perth. The victim also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
No fatalities so far this year
According to official statistics, there were about a dozen shark attacks Down Under last year that left victims injured. Four more attacks resulted in death. There have been about half a dozen attacks so far this year, with no fatalities.
