A one-year-old toddler died in a heated car in Italy after being stuck in the car for several hours in the scorching sun. The father simply forgot to take his daughter to daycare in the morning.
Instead, the man drove to his workplace and parked his car in a parking lot on an industrial estate.
In the area in northern Italy, temperatures in the shade rose to 34 degrees. The man only realised several hours later that he had forgotten his daughter in the locked car when he wanted to take his lunch break with his colleagues.
Father is in shock
Alerted rescuers could only determine that the child was dead. The father was taken to hospital in the Venetian district of Mestre, in shock, and is now receiving psychological care together with the toddler’s mother.
Large parts of Italy have been hit by a heat wave for several days now. The southern Mediterranean is particularly affected. In the north it is a bit more bearable with just over 30 degrees.
