As we all know, love is blind – or, as in this case, it makes you blind: A woman from the Tyrolean lowlands was coldly defrauded by an unscrupulous love fraudster on the Internet. In total, the victim transferred over 100,000 euros. The fraudster could have taken even more money from the Tyrolean woman’s pocket, but he made a mistake.
The woman from the Kitzbühel district came across a man’s profile on a dating platform in February. The local woman contacted him and a lively exchange followed. This was the beginning of a so-called love story, which ended fatally.
Victims skillfully manipulated
By “simulating a romantic relationship” and engaging in “skillful, manipulative conversations,” the unknown fraudster managed to trick his victim into making several money transfers.
By mid-July, the audacious scam had worked; all in all, the woman transferred a low six-figure sum – just over 100,000 euros. But on Wednesday, the victim cashed out the money.
All the money is gone
Because the fraud came to light. But how? “The perpetrators mistakenly sent a transfer confirmation to a fake recipient who also fell victim to this Lovescam fraud in 2023,” researchers say. The then victim informed the current victim, who then immediately filed a report.
There is no trace of the perpetrator, all the money is gone!
