A farmer in Ausserbraz (Vorarlberg) suffered serious head injuries when he tried to pull a transport vehicle up a slope with a tractor.
On Friday, an industrial accident occurred in Ausserbraz. At around 10:00, a 71-year-old farmer and his son wanted to bring hay into a section of a meadow that was about 30 degrees steep using agricultural implements. In order to pull a transport vehicle up the steep section, the two attached a pulley to an anchor bolt that was fixed in a rock.
When attempting to pull the transport vehicle up with a rope pulled by a tractor, the anchor bolt came loose. The resulting tension caused the return pulley to be thrown towards the transport vehicle.
The deflection pulley penetrated the windshield
There he first collided with the vehicle and then went through the windshield. The 71-year-old was hit in the head and seriously injured. After initial treatment, the farmer had to be flown by emergency helicopter to the state hospital in Feldkirch.
