Israel bombs Yemen’s Hodeida port in retaliation for Houthi attack on Tel Aviv

Date:

The Israeli Air Force strike on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah (on the Red Sea) on Saturday was aimed at preventing the import of weapons from Iran to the Houthi rebels, an Israeli army spokesman confirmed.

The Israeli planes have bombed next saturday the port city of Hodeida, in the west of Yemen, 24 hours after a drone attack by Yemeni guerrillas on Israel, in which one person was killed. Media related to the Houthi uprising suggest there are fatalities, although there is no more specific information at this time.

The Israeli Air Force attack on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah (on the Red Sea) last Saturday was aimed at to prevent the import of weapons from Iran to the Houthi rebelsas confirmed by an Israeli army spokesperson.

“The port of Hodeida is used by the Houthis as a route for the import of weapons from Iran into Yemen,” making it a legitimate target for Israel, military spokesman Nadav Shoshani said in a video appearance.

The military spokesman assured that Hodeida was the entry route for “advanced munitions” from Iran that the rebels have used in dozens of attacks on Israel, but which have also “disrupted the economic order” at the global level, referring to the group’s violence against international cargo ships in the Red Sea.

The attack comes in response to the explosion of an Iranian drone launched from Yemen in Tel Aviv on Friday, which killed an Israeli civilian, as well as to the more than 220 drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles that the Houthis have launched against Israel in recent months as a sign of support for the Palestinian people.

“This was an Israeli attack,” Shoshani has repeatedly insisted, refuting rumors that the operation against Hodeida was carried out in coordination with the United States and Britain, as initial media reports on the matter indicate.

Likewise, he has claimed that “if the attacks continue, so will Israel’s actions in self-defense.”

For its part, the High Political Council of the Houthi Movement in Yemen said on Saturday that there will be an “effective response” to Israeli airstrikes on Hodeida port. This brutal aggression only increases our determination“Resistance and support of the Yemeni people and their brave forces against Gaza,” stressed a spokesman for Ansarullah, the Houthi party, Mohamed Abdulsalam.

“Thanks to Allah, the Yemeni people are able to face all challenges with the help of Allah to achieve the victory of the oppressed Palestine and the people of Gaza, which represents the most just cause on earth,” argued the Yemeni chain Al Mayadín.
