Climate activists from the group “Last Generation” sawed off the top of the Christmas tree in front of the Brandenburg Gate in the German capital of Berlin. Beforehand, the two activists unrolled a banner on a lifting platform that read: “This is just the top of the Christmas tree,” a police spokeswoman said.
They then drove the jack-up platform to the top of the 15-meter-high Nordmann fir on Pariser Platz in Berlin-Mitte on Wednesday morning during the protest.
They cut off the tip with a handsaw, the climate activists of the group “Last Generation” themselves announced.
Police action underway
“So far in Germany we have only seen the tip of the underlying catastrophe,” one activist said of the protest. The police were on the spot. Measures are now being taken, said the police spokeswoman, without giving further details.
