Fire fears as Israel attacks Houthi militia in Yemen

Date:

As reported, a long-range drone sent from Yemen struck the center of the Israeli coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv on Friday evening, killing one person. Now the Israeli Air Force has launched a counterattack and, according to its own statements, attacked military targets of the pro-Iranian Houthi militia in Yemen. People were also killed. Now, concerns are growing about a wildfire.

Iran and Israel have warned each other that Israel’s “dangerous adventurism” could trigger a regional war, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said, according to the IRNA agency. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke of the defensive fight against Iran’s “terreras.”

“Now is the time for the international community to maximize sanctions against Iran,” Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz demanded on Platform X. Iran supports, trains and finances the Houthis because “part of its regional network of terrorist organizations wants to attack Israel.” Israel and its supporters, such as the US, would be “directly responsible” for the “unforeseeable and dangerous consequences” of the Gaza war and the attacks on Yemen, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned.

Yemen confirms attack on “civilian facilities”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “deeply concerned about the risk of further escalation in the region.” He called for “utmost restraint.” The Israeli military said it had earlier attacked Houthi military targets in the port of Hodeidah. At least three people were killed and 87 wounded, Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah television reported Sunday night, citing health authorities.

Pictures showed huge fires. Houthi spokesmen had confirmed an Israeli attack on “civilian facilities” in Yemen. The targets were oil and power plants. “From the beginning of the war, I have made it clear that Israel will take action against anyone who attacks us,” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said.

Houthi militia prepares for ‘long war’
Yemen’s Houthi militia military spokesman Yahya Saree said they were preparing for a “long war” with Israel. The militia has been attacking merchant ships in the region for months that are believed to have ties to Israel. It claims to be acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza war. It has also attacked targets in Israel. Most of the missiles were blocked. Iran is financing, arming and directing Houthi terrorist activities, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

A civil war has been raging in Yemen for years between the Shiite Houthi militia and the Sunni-dominated Yemeni government.
