Application rejected – Huseyn (13) is not allowed to return to Salzburg

Date:

A regular school place, a normal everyday life including a host family: Everything was ready for the return of table tennis ace Huseyn (13) Salimov. Together with his family, the boy was deported to Azerbaijan in February. Friends and companions wanted to return the boy to Salzburg with a student visa. But nothing comes of it.

The message from the Salzburg authorities came last Friday. Huseyn Salimov (13) is not getting a student visa for the city of Salzburg. The young and passionate table tennis player of the UTTC Salzburg is therefore not allowed to enter the country for a period of two years. “This news came as a shock to all of us,” said UTTC Vice President Walter Windischbauer.

He’s been fighting for Huseyn’s return for the past few months. He hasn’t given up hope yet. “We have two weeks to make a statement – only then will the final decision be made,” said Windischbauer. He appealed to the authorities: “I hope for discretion. Huseyn is well integrated here. We have organized his daily life perfectly. It would not cost the taxpayer a euro.”

Family unexpectedly deported
As a reminder, the Salimovs have been living in Salzburg since the summer of 2016 and had integrated as well as possible. The mother diligently attended German courses. Sohnemann Huseyn attended Campus Mirabell High School and is a gifted table tennis player. The youth played for the UTTC Salzburg in the national competition. “He is a tremendous talent,” said deputy chairman Walter Windischbauer. The unexpected deportation of the Azerbaijanis to their former homeland caused not only great consternation in the table tennis club.

Huge support from Salzburg
More than 14,000 people signed an online petition for family return. His supporters were able to raise 7,200 euros in donations – with this they wanted to fly Huseyn to his old homeland as often as possible. Because: Regardless of the current decision of the authorities, his family is not allowed to enter Austria for two years.
