In Millstatt there is a slightly different place name sign than usual. According to this the place is called “Olta/Oida.”
Road users are surprised when they drive past the new town sign in Millstatt. Because the name of the town is not on the sign, but ‘Olta/Oida.’ And we Austrians know both words all too well. Drivers and passers-by are confronted with a puzzle. “There has been no educational work done, but it has to do with art,” reveals mayor Alexander Thoma.
Call of transport
Behind it stands Carinthian Gert Resinger, who lives in Vienna. During the installation, the artist discusses his two places of residence and their use of language. And ‘Olta/Oida’ can – now written down – also be understood as a call to be transported by the beautiful view of the location, it is said. In any case, an information board must be placed with information about the art installation. The work was created in the context of the art association millstART and is part of the exhibition “schön!_dasleben”.
