On Monday, an 11-year-old tourist fell to her death from a balcony in Mallorca, about 20 metres from the seventh floor of a hotel, regional newspapers reported.
The fatal accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in Alcúdia, in the north of the Spanish Mediterranean island. Mallorcan emergency services reported that the girl’s parents were still asleep at the time. According to initial findings, everything points to an accident.
Psychological support for parents
Rescue workers arrived quickly, but their attempts to resuscitate failed. The parents, who originally wanted to return to Ireland on Monday, are receiving psychological support. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is still ongoing.
In Mallorca tourists often fall from balconies, but they are usually older than the girl and drunk. For example, drunks lock themselves out or try to test their courage by jumping from the balcony into the pool.
