Patient in quarantine – First confirmed case of monkey pox in Carinthia

Date:

After Corona, monkey pox is now also a concern: the first infected person was reported in Carinthia on Sunday.

The 25-year-old man from the St. Veit district probably contracted the disease in Vienna. “After his return he turned out to be infected, he is in quarantine at home,” said state spokesman Gerd Kurath. This is the first confirmed case of infection in Carinthia. “The authorities have been informed, all measures related to the infectious disease have been taken,” the state said.

Second shipment of vaccine arrived
In Austria, there were just over 160 reported cases of monkey pox. Of these, 45 patients have already been reported as recovered in the epidemiological registry (EMS). This is evident from the update of the number of cases on the website of the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) on Friday. Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Health, the expected second delivery of the monkeypox vaccine has arrived in Austria.

Monkeypox is also becoming more common in Europe, it is a rapidly transmissible infectious disease with febrile and smallpox-like symptoms, usually with a mild course. However, serious disease progression cannot be ruled out. There is a vaccination against monkey pox that minimizes the risk of getting the disease and, in case of illness, softens the course.
