And once again, an online introduction to a 65-year-old Tyrolean woman ended in financial disaster: fraudsters cleverly competed for the woman’s affection on an online platform and used lies to trick her into paying tens of thousands of euros.
She was looking for true love on the internet and was coldly scammed by criminals! In 2022, the 65-year-old woman from Wattens registered with an online dating agency. She soon noticed the profile of a man with whom she eventually made contact.
Emergencies simulated
“In the course of the ensuing conversation, which became increasingly intense, the previously unknown perpetrator gave her false facts and emergency situations, which led the woman to make several transfers,” the police said. Now the Tyrolean woman recognized the fraud and filed a complaint last Friday. “In the period from May 2022 to July 2024, the 65-year-old suffered damages of around five figures,” the investigators said.
