A mother kills her daughter after she exposes an alleged kidnapping

Date:

The body of the little girl, aged five, was found on the outskirts of Catania after the woman collapsed and confessed to the crime

Shocked in Italy to learn that little Elena del Pozzo, a five-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped on the outskirts of the Sicilian city of Catania, had instead been murdered by her mother. The woman reported the alleged disappearance on Monday and assured that three hooded men, one of whom was holding a gun, took the little girl after collecting her from the nursery.

After a night of interrogations in which the mother, Martina Patti, 23, suffered numerous inconsistencies that led to the Carabinieri’s suspicions, the woman collapsed on Tuesday and confessed to the crime, without being able to explain the reasons for the murder. His statement made it possible to find the girl’s body, which was found in a vacant lot near Patti’s house, which it had covered with earth and ashes to hide it. The mother will be charged with wrongful death and concealment of the body.

The Public Prosecution Service has opened an investigation to clarify this crime, which could have its origin in the disputes he had with the little girl’s father. The two lived in separate houses. “We believed the hooded men’s story. We had no reason not to. Elena was a wonderful girl,” said Rosaria Testa, the grandmother on her side. The lady spoke to the local media about the quarrels between her son and her daughter-in-law, who once assaulted the girl.

“One day he hit him and we had to take him off our hands. That morning I walked her to school and told her that no one loved her more than me. She looked at me and let me know that she understood me. The mother had an authoritarian and aristocratic attitude. She decided when she took the girl,” the grandmother said. Her husband, Giovanni Del Pozzo, described his daughter-in-law as “a very secretive woman” and asked her to pay for what she did, also inviting the Carabinieri to check if she had any accomplices.

The girl’s aunt, Martina Vanessa Del Pozzo, also reported that Patti allegedly tried to link the father to the little girl’s disappearance: “I wanted to set a trap for my brother. A year ago, he was wrongly accused of a robbery, but luckily he was acquitted. When he went from prison to house arrest, we found a threatening note under the house that read: ‘Don’t be a snitch, be careful what you do.’ My brother knew nothing. The mother of the girl told that note to the kidnapping.”
