The former director of the US Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, has resigned after admitting security failures at the Butler, Pennsylvania, meeting where former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) was assassinated.
Appearing before a House committee yesterday, Cheatle declared the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump the agency’s “greatest operational failure” in decades. Cheatle took “full responsibility” for his agency’s “security failure” and said he was cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the attack.
The republican opposition there was asked for Cheatle’s resignationwho heads the agency responsible for Trump’s security. During the hearing, Republicans protested Cheatle’s refusal to answer most of their questions, saying there are several ongoing investigations that the Secret Service is cooperating with to clarify what went wrong during the operation.
After resigning, he took it up himself trump has said that the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris “did not protect him enough”. “I was forced to take a bullet for democracy. IT WAS A GREAT HONOR TO DO IT!” Trump said in a post shared on his social network, Truth Social.
Trump was shot in the ear while attending a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman had climbed to a rooftop about 450 feet from the former president, though outside the security perimeter.
