What was real? – Biden wants to explain his withdrawal in address to the nation

Date:

US President Joe Biden plans to address his withdrawal from the presidential race in a speech to the nation on Wednesday evening (local time). The 81-year-old Democrat announced this on Platform X.

The Oval Office address is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time (2 a.m. CEST). Biden wrote that he would explain what he plans to do next and how he plans to finish his job as president. The 81-year-old returns to the U.S. capital Washington today.

He previously stayed at his private residence in the US state of Delaware after a corona infection. Biden announced in writing on Sunday afternoon that he intended to run for re-election. However, he believes it is in the best interests of his party and the country if he withdraws and focuses solely on his office. The 81-year-old published the statement on his social media channels and announced that he would provide more detailed information about his decision later this week.

Disastrous performance landed Biden in trouble
Biden came under heavy criticism after a disastrous performance in a televised duel against ex-president Trump in late June. During the exchange of blows, the most powerful man in the world regularly became confused, lost the thread, stared ahead with his mouth open and often could not finish his sentences properly. Within the Democratic Party and among the population, there were already reservations about Biden’s re-election ambitions because of Biden’s age.

But after the duel, the debate over Biden’s suitability as the Democratic presidential nominee flared up to a whole new level—and in full public view. More and more of Biden’s party members came out of hiding and called for him to withdraw from the presidential race. The 81-year-old had his back to the wall and finally succumbed to the enormous pressure of the weekend. He nominated his Vice President, Kamala Harris, as his replacement candidate for the November 5 election.

Cancellations due to Corona
Biden has been self-isolating for about a week at his private residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, after testing positive for the coronavirus. He plans to return to Washington this afternoon (local time). However, he has not yet announced any public appointments for today.

After his corona infection, Biden had to cancel campaign appointments. He has not attended any public appointments since the positive test result. According to his doctor, the 81-year-old had mild symptoms. On Monday, the personal physician announced that the Democrat was now on the mend.
