Absolute record find: 3.2 tons of crystal meth seized in Rotterdam

Date:

Dutch authorities have seized a record 3.2 tons of methamphetamine in the port of Rotterdam, with a street value of 22.4 million euros.

It was “the largest seizure of crystal meth in the Netherlands to date,” prosecutors said. The drug was therefore hidden in a “sandy substance that was heavily contaminated with copper and PFAS.”

Cargo from Mexico
Customs officials discovered the enormous quantity of synthetic drug crystal meth in early March in a shipment that had entered the port of Rotterdam from Mexico and was to be taken to Den Hout in the southern Netherlands.

Due to the methamphetamine contamination, it took four months for authorities to find a way to safely destroy the seized drugs, which is why the discovery has only just been announced.

55-year-old arrested
A 55-year-old was arrested in Den Hout in connection with drug smuggling. He has since been released, but is still listed as a suspect in the case.
