Success for the Lower Austrian police: serial burglars planned their coup from Poland

Date:

Within two months, criminals struck ten times in Lower Austria alone. A safe that was broken into and taken away in a Czech forest also involved investigators from the neighboring country and led to a cross-border collaboration that paid off.

It was the beginning of the end for the Georgian gang, which was accused of ten burglaries in the Waldviertel alone within two months.

Tresor led to new collaboration
A safe broken into and found in a Czech forest, which came from an “illegal entry” into a house in the municipality of Gastern, sparked a collaboration between Lower Austrian and Czech researchers, which soon blossomed. The four Georgians were arrested red-handed – after burglaries in Karlstein, Niederedlitz and Waidhofen an der Thaya – in the town of Waidhofen, reports district police chief Paul Palisek.

Loot: gold ducats, jewelry, pistol
The men, aged between 32 and 35, always operated from Poland and are partly known. During their coups in Lower Austria, they stole items worth 90,000 euros and caused 17,000 euros in damage. The burglars mainly stole cash, jewelry, gold ducats and watches. But mobile phones, tablets, computers, silver coins and a gun were also on the loot list.

Burglars always struck when it was dark
Without exception, the Georgians were given access to the houses at dusk under the cover of darkness. They did this with a flat-head screwdriver or a crowbar, which they used to force open windows and doors. They then searched the entire house.

Bought car including Polish license plates
The group of perpetrators came from Poland. There they bought several vehicles, complete with Polish license plates. They drove this to the Czech Republic and Austria and left there again after their successful burglaries.
