The mountain hike of a Hungarian (63) in the Tyrolean Zillertal ended tragically on Friday! The man fell into the depths on his way to the top of the “Frozen Wall”. Unfortunately, the emergency doctor was able to determine his death.
At around 10:30, the Hungarian man, accompanied by three friends, took the train from Hintertux to the mountain station of the “Frozen Wand” at 3,250 meters. “From there, the group wanted to climb to the summit at 3,288 meters. The climb to the summit is currently an open ridge climb with partially attached steel cable insurance,” the police said.
A helicopter flew the body into the valley
The 63-year-old was ahead of the group – as he had been there before – and for unknown reasons lost his footing at around 3,180 metres and then fell about 120 metres over rocky terrain towards Tuxer Ferner. The three companions were able to return to the mountain station independently and set the rescue chain in motion. The alerted emergency doctor from “Heli 4” could only determine that the holidaymaker was dead. The body was recovered by the police helicopter “Libelle Tirol” and flown to the valley. The companions of the accident victim had to be cared for by a KIT team from the Red Cross.
