A case in Kapfenberg caused outrage: a man from Styria locked his dog in the trunk of his car in the midday heat – “but the police didn’t help”.
“The dog didn’t bark, he screamed when he was finally allowed out of his prison!” A stunned reader describes her horrific experience in Kapfenberg last week. A car was parked in front of a store with a German Shepherd locked in the trunk.
“I pointed out to the owner that he had to open the door, but he didn’t.” A verbal argument followed, other passers-by took the woman’s side and called the police. And they did – after a long time. But she allegedly did nothing.
“The windows were only opened a crack and the dog owner was allowed to continue shopping,” says the astonished woman, who showed exemplary moral courage. “The police, ‘my friend and helper’, I don’t understand why they didn’t help. On the contrary!”
Major criticism of the police – someone bravely shows moral courage and is then “abandoned” by the executive branch – while an animal is condemned to suffer?
Police spokesman Fritz Grundnig confirmed the incident, but if the dog had not been in a “worrying condition,” the response would have been proportionate. The executive branch is animal-friendly, he emphasizes. This is already emphasized in the vocational training. Of course, he limits, the extent would be individual.
