After rockets on Golan – Israel threatens war with Lebanon: first attacks

Date:

At least 11 people were killed Saturday night when a rocket hit the Golan Heights. Israel announces retaliation and openly threatens Lebanon with war. Several Hezbollah targets in the country were attacked Sunday morning, including a weapons depot.

According to Israeli information, several locations in the Golan Heights were hit by rockets fired from Lebanon on Saturday. According to the Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom, at least twelve people were killed in a direct hit on the Druze town of Majdal Shams.

19 other people were injured. The deadly rocket hit a football field. All victims are believed to be between 10 and 20 years old.

Military spokesman Daniel Hagari on Saturday called the shelling “the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians since October 7.” “It’s about the Druze community, about Israeli civilians (…) We will defend the citizens of Israel and the Druze community,” he said. Helicopters, ambulances and mobile intensive care units are in use in Majdal Shams.

Hezbollah denies the allegations
The Israeli military said the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon was behind the rocket fire. However, Hezbollah has denied this. “The Islamic Resistance has no connection with this incident,” Hezbollah said, referring to its military wing.

Lebanon condemned the violence
The Lebanese government on Saturday condemned “all acts of violence and aggression against civilians.” “The targeting of civilians is a flagrant violation of international law and contrary to the principles of humanity,” the report said.
