Various missions – storms trigger missions again

Date:

Carinthia was hit by a new storm on Sunday, with the central area being particularly affected.

Around noon, a thunderstorm front was already moving across parts of Upper Carinthia. Fallen trees were reported in the Spittal district. In the afternoon, the thunderstorm cell moved further towards the central area. “Here too, several fallen trees were reported as a result of the storm,” says the state emergency and warning center and continues: “The water rescue team also had to be deployed. Because surfers and water sports enthusiasts are in distress at sea.” The water rescue team is therefore also conducting inspection trips to get people ashore.

Cars hit by trees
In Nötsch and Völkermarkt, three cars were hit by trees. A 35-year-old passenger was slightly injured. In Lower Carinthia, cellars were also flooded. In Völkermarkt, several thousand households were without electricity for a short time. “A small mudslide blocked a side road in the Tscheppaschlucht area,” the police said.

Several trees and three electricity poles were demolished or broken down. As a result, several garages, three house roofs, the roof of the elementary school and the armory were damaged. A tree also fell on the moving vehicle of a 35-year-old man.

In total, Carinthia’s fire brigades had to go on around 100 storm missions on Sunday.
