Sudden thunderstorms on the motorway, and then: aquaplaning! Now it’s time to react correctly. “Release the accelerator, avoid hasty manoeuvres and brake if necessary,” emphasises Roland Frisch, chief passenger car instructor at ÖAMTC driving technology. During dynamic training at five driving technology centres, you can try out and perfect this manoeuvre while driving through the centre’s own aquaplaning pool.
This way you can train for an emergency in a safe environment. In addition to aquaplaning, the dynamic training also teaches you how to behave correctly when obstacles suddenly appear or when changing the emergency lane – up to 80 km/h. The highlight is the handling course: Here all exercises are repeated and the previously learned techniques and maneuvers are applied one after the other. Modern assistance systems and how they work are explained. Instructors are always ready for advice and explanations.
Emergency braking in traffic jams
The gateway to the world of driving technique is intensive car training – the beginning of a completely new driving experience. It forms the basis for subsequent training, dynamics and performance and increases driving safety. A sudden traffic jam, for example, is an underestimated danger. Then quick action is required – and sometimes even an emergency stop. Because these emergency situations occur rarely, even experienced drivers are fortunately not professional in dealing with them.
Such dangerous and emergency manoeuvres are taught during intensive training. The highlight is the randomly controlled catapult plate on which the stabilisation of the vehicle is practised. With tips and feedback from the professional instructors, the participants improve every time and the fun is not neglected.
Training in “high speed”
Anyone who has mastered the training at “normal speed” can optimize their driving skills with performance training in the centers in Saalfelden, Melk/Wachauring and Teesdorf.
Slalom courses, cornering techniques, aquaplaning, steering and viewing techniques when changing emergency lanes and cornering dynamics are trained. Professional “speed instructors” give valuable tips. “Changing lanes without restraint at motorway speed without sweat on your forehead? “After completing the performance training, that is no problem,” says Frisch. This is the great advantage of driving technique training: “In contrast to a single attempt on the road, the participants drive several rides during the training under the guidance of trained instructors in a safe environment.”
