Etxebarria accuses unions of subjecting citizens to ‘being hostages to their demands’

For his part, the Councilor for Security, César Fernández de Landa, will meet separately this Thursday with the unions represented in the local police of Vitoria-Gasteiz, to address the open conflict and try to turn the situation around.

“That’s not possible, it’s not acceptable. It really makes us very angry that it is the citizens who have to play the role pagan and that they subdue us hostages of some of his claims. CCOO and Sipla must think about this situation.” This is how the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz strongly expressed himself, Maider Etxebarriareferring to the labor dispute of the local police of the capital Alava.

Etxebarria has shown his anger over the massive casualties that the officers and police take with them jealousy strikes carried out by part of the group to demand better working conditions. The mayor has rejected the position of the CCOO and Sipla unions and has reported that the city council is in consultation with the Ertzaintza so that the Christmas events can take place without problems.

“That cannot be true, it is not acceptable and it really makes us very angry that it is the citizens who have to be the heathens and subject us to hostages for some of their demands. For this reason, I insist that the Workers’ Committees and Sipla should reflect on this situation,” he said.
