A pair of mini pigs kept as pets – the animals were even allowed to sit on the living room sofa – reproduced extremely quickly. Now the owners are extremely overwhelmed with keeping and feeding them and are looking for a new, loving home for the little “grunts”.
The 15 mini pigs of Niklas E. (21) are cute and you always want to pet them. But: At least 13 of them now urgently need a new home. “My son bought a pair from a breeder two years ago because he wanted to give them away. “Unfortunately, they have now multiplied so much that their attitude is beyond us,” says mother Bernadette E. (47).
Pigs have gone to dogs
The ÖBB employees and the mechanic have raised the little ‘grunts’ on their premises as pets. “We kept them like dogs – they were allowed in the house and were completely house-trained,” says Bernadette E.
The teacup pigs also sat on the couch in the living room and even helped prepare food in the kitchen. “They always got leftovers.” They also played with the real family dog.
Owner gives away animals
However, their reproductive instincts eventually made it necessary to build a stable in the garden. “They were always free to run around and felt very comfortable.”
But now their number has grown to 15, and the 47-year-old can barely clean the house and get food. “In addition to fruit and vegetables, they also need 25 kilos of manure feed every day.”
Their appeals to various animal welfare organizations for help went unheard; Pfotenhilfe Lochen promised to take four mini pigs.
E. wants to give away the animals, which cost approximately € 380 each, and now hopes that loving places can be found through “Krone”. Interested parties can send an email to tierecke.linz@kronenzeitung.at.
