Travelers in Salzburg will need more patience again on Thursday and Friday: the German train drivers are on strike, as are the German ground crew. In Salzburg, flights to Frankfurt and trains to Munich are mainly affected.
At the same time, since today, Thursday, our German neighbors have been experiencing strikes at airports and in train traffic. There is a railway strike until Friday afternoon. This also has consequences for the connections from Salzburg to Munich: these locomotives are usually driven by a Deutsche Bahn employee.
Since 2 a.m., only 20 percent of long-distance trains have been running. The trains will be on strike until Friday at 1 p.m. The ÖBB advises to postpone trips to Germany that are not urgent.
ÖBB’s long-distance trains via the Deutsches Eck between Salzburg and Kufstein are expected to run as scheduled. This also applies to the Westbahn trains to and from Munich and Rosenheim and via the Deutsche Eck to Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Travelers can find more information in the app or on the ÖBB website.
The situation at Salzburg airport with connections to Germany does not look better: four Lufthansa flights from Vienna to Munich were reportedly affected by the strike on Thursday. Thirteen flights are cancelled: seven landings and six take-offs. Originally only security staff at Hamburg and Frankfurt airports wanted to strike, but the strike was soon extended to Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf.
