It was a very tragic accident! He was very active in local life, helped where he was needed, was on the parish council and was active in the fire brigade until the end. “Unfortunately it doesn’t help at all…” says Norbert Heller, mayor of Maria Schmolln and neighbor of the deceased, shocked.
In the first month of “retirement”
The father of four had only officially handed over the farm to his youngest son in July, but he still helped out. On Saturday around 5:20 p.m. he was driving with a tractor and trailer from the direction of Höhnhart towards Sonnleiten when he left the road in a left bend.
The man was killed instantly
After a few meters he tried to steer back onto the road, but the heavy machine tipped over. As a result, the farmer was thrown from the driver’s seat and landed directly under the rear wheel of the tractor – he died instantly, the emergency doctors had no chance.
Painful Gap
“We saw the emergency doctor and the ambulance arrive and of course we went straight away to inform the family. We don’t know exactly why he left the road,” says the mayor and old neighbour, describing the tragic scene. One thing is for sure: the farmer leaves a painful hole both on the farm and in the local community.
