A 41-year-old man in Vienna’s Danube city suffered terrible torments on Saturday. According to emergency services, the man probably fell asleep with a cigarette and suffered serious burns. “There was danger to life,” Vienna police reported on Monday.
Alarm at the professional fire brigade, professional rescue service and police in Vienna: At around 10:35, the emergency services had to go to a room fire on Leonard-Bernstein-Straße. The emergency services immediately tried to contact the resident of the affected apartment on the 6th floor, but in vain.
The man was barely conscious
Because the door of the apartment, probably due to the heat, partially jumped out of its anchorage, it could be opened quickly. A 41-year-old man, who was barely conscious, was pulled from the flames at the entrance.
“He was taken to hospital with suspected serious burns and smoke inhalation,” Vienna police said. The man’s life was in danger.
Probably fell asleep with a cigarette
The fire was extinguished and the surrounding apartments were also checked. According to the current state of the investigation, it can be assumed that the 41-year-old fell asleep in his bed with a lit cigarette in his hand. No other members of the emergency services were injured in the operation.
