Hamas leader Ismail Haniye killed in attack in Tehran blamed on Israel

Israeli authorities have acknowledged that they eliminated Haniyeh with a “precise strike”. His body will be transferred from Tehran to Doha tomorrow, Thursday, where a funeral ceremony will take place on Friday before it is finally transferred to Lusail (Qatar) for burial.

The armed Islamic group Hamas confirmed this Wednesday the death of its leader, Ismail Haniyehin an Israeli attack in Tehran. He was on an official visit to attend the inauguration of the country’s new president, Masud Pezeshkian, in the Iranian capital yesterday. One of his bodyguards was also killed in the attack. Israel has acknowledged that it eliminated Haniyeh with a “precise strike.”

The body of the political leader of Hamas will be transferred from Tehran to Doha tomorrow Thursday, where A funeral ceremony will be held on Friday before finally transferring him to Lusail, Qatar, for burial. A “popular and official funeral ceremony” will be held in the Iranian capital before he is transported to Doha in the morning, the Islamist group said in a statement. Arab and Muslim leaders will attend the meeting in Doha, but Hamas did not specify who.

In a statement issued after the death was confirmed, Hamas assured that the assassination of its leader was taking place “will not go unpunished”. “Do not consider those who are killed in the path of Allah as dead, but rather they are alive with their Lord, receiving sustenance. It is a jihad of victory or martyrdom,” the Islamist group stated.

Haniyeh, number one in Hamas’ political bureau, lived in exile in Qatar. Last April, Israel killed Haniyeh’s three children and several grandchildren in Gaza.

On the other side, the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah has confirmed that its commander Fuad Shukr was in the building bombed by Israel on the outskirts of Beirut last night, but cannot yet provide an account of his whereabouts as search efforts in the area continue.

“At that time, the great jihadist brother Fuad Shukr (‘Hajj Mohsen’) was in this building,” the armed group acknowledged in its first statement on the matter since the attack on the capital’s Dahye suburb, one of its main strongholds in Lebanon.

Israel blamed Shukr for the deaths of 12 children killed on Saturday in a rocket attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Hamas has been at war with Israel ever since last october 7thafter it attacked Israeli territory alongside Palestinian Islamic Jihad, killing 1,200 and kidnapping 250. In response, Israel began a bombing campaign against the Gaza Strip, which has so far killed more than 1 million people 39,400 deadand involving other groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis, who form the so-called Axis of Resistance, an anti-Israel alliance allied with Iran.
