Last week, a total of 16 people died on the roads in Austria. This weekend alone, seven people died tragically. The Ministry of the Interior has now published this sad result.
The accidents killed five car drivers, four motorcyclists, two e-scooter drivers, two car passengers, a light motorcyclist, an e-bike driver and a cargo bike driver.
Car driver (48) died in Burgenland
There were shocking scenes in Burgenland on Sunday. At around 5:45 a.m., the silver car of a Hungarian woman (48) collided with an oncoming station wagon and a following car for reasons that are still unclear. All help came too late for the woman.
Young people burned in electric car
Also in Upper Austria, two young people (17 and 18 years old) died after a head-on collision with a tree, because the electric car caught fire and both people in the car burned to death.
Motorcycle collides with truck
For example, a serious accident also occurred in Lower Austria. A motorcycle collided head-on with a turning truck. The motorcyclist died on the spot.
Last week there was also a terrible traffic accident on the A1 near Vienna, in which one person died. Another person was taken to hospital with serious injuries. One dog survived the accident unharmed.
Most died in Lower Austria
In total, five people died in Lower Austria, four in Upper Austria, three in Styria, two in Vienna and one each in Burgenland and Tyrol. The main causes of accidents were inattention/distraction, incorrect speed and overtaking. In five cases, the cause has not yet been clarified.
