The terrible accidental death of two young people on Sunday evening in Buchkirchen (Upper Austria) is shocking. The two young people – they were only 17 and 18 years old – burned to death in an electric car. The grief for the ‘scary nice girl’ is enormous, both in her home community and beyond.
“I am shocked, I don’t even know what to say,” said Mario Zottele, chairman of the Huskies Wels football club, who is deeply shocked after the tragic accidental death of 17-year-old Anja.
The young woman from Krenglbach was traveling on Sunday evening on the Uttenthaler Straße in Buchkirchen with an 18-year-old from Perchtoldsdorf (Lower Austria). For reasons still unknown, the young driver crashed his car – according to information from Krone it was a fully electric Volvo – head-on into a fruit tree.
The bodies were only discovered after the fire was extinguished
The car was thrown into an adjacent cornfield and immediately caught fire. The two occupants were unable to save themselves and burned to death in the wreckage. The bodies were not discovered by firefighters until after the fire had been extinguished. The grief for the two young people is immense in their home community. In addition to the aforementioned soccer club, Anja has always been involved with children’s friends in the community.
Wanted to be a football coach
“She was an active member and played quarterback in our club when she was young. Now that she was about to turn 18, she was no longer allowed to play as a teenager. We only spoke on Wednesday about what she could do next. She wanted to train as a coach and pass on her experiences to the youngsters,” Zottele explains. But the tragic accident put an end to the 17-year-old’s plans.
Last week, after the last match, she said goodbye to her teammates. On social media, they now say goodbye to their friend in a moving way. “She was always fully involved, very involved and always motivated everyone else. She was just an incredibly nice girl,” Zotelle remembers Anja.
