Major operation in D-hotel fails: all survivors rescued

Date:

Emergency services are breathing a sigh of relief after a hotel collapsed in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, killing two people: the last survivor was rescued from the rubble late on Wednesday evening.

After more than 24 hours in the collapsed building in Kröv, the woman was pulled from the rubble to applause. According to the police, the emergency services had previously deployed heavy equipment from a special company to reach the woman. According to the police, they had ‘voice contact’ with her and were able to provide her with fluids. There was another man under the rubble who had died in the collapse, as well as another woman.

Parts of the hotel collapsed late Tuesday night, only five people were able to save themselves from the building. Eight people were trapped in the rubble, some were seriously injured. The emergency services quickly contacted a number of them by phone. It is still unclear how the building partially collapsed. According to the police, residents called the emergency number late Tuesday night.

Shortly before the collapse, construction work was underway on the building
Operations manager Jörg Teusch explained that construction work was taking place on the building shortly before the collapse. Expert reports and investigations should now show whether there was a factual connection with the collapse. The basic structure of the building dates back to the 17th century, according to Teusch. “Around 1980, another two and a half floors were added to the ground floor.” At that time, a basic structure was built with channel ceilings with supporting structures. “That was exactly where the core of the matter was that the first floor completely collapsed,” the operations manager said.

Kröv is located on the Moselle River in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which borders Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Especially in the summer, there are many tourists in the region, which is known for its wine growing.
