A 32-year-old overtook a car in a construction zone with a speed limit of 30 and an overtaking ban. With fatal consequences: the woman went into the oncoming lane and collided with two cars. Seven people were injured, some seriously. And then the rescue helicopter was also broken down.

The 32-year-old from the Rohrbach district was driving her car on the B 126 from Bad Leonfelden towards the Weigetschlag border crossing at around 12:45 on Thursday. Her 22-year-old partner from the Schärding district was sitting next to her. The driver’s five-year-old son was sitting in the back.

Got into a skid
In the town of Weigetschlag, the driver skidded during an overtaking manoeuvre on the partly gravelled road and ended up on the left side of the road. She hit the side of the car of a 77-year-old pensioner from Linz and then also the next Czech car, driven by a 58-year-old Czech citizen, head-on. In addition to the driver, there were two other acquaintances in the car. A 65-year-old Czech woman and a 54-year-old Czech man.

C10 was defective
As a result of the accident, all seven occupants were injured, some seriously, and were taken to various hospitals in Linz and Freistadt. The five-year-old was slightly injured. The requested rescue helicopter C10 landed at the scene of the accident on the B 126, but could not start due to a defect. The 65-year-old, who was already in the helicopter, had to be reloaded. She was taken by ambulance to the UKH Linz. The federal highway was closed for several hours until the damage to the helicopter was repaired. A total of five ambulances, two emergency doctors, three fire brigades and the C10 were deployed to rescue the injured.

30 and no overtaking
Every vehicle involved was a total loss. And actually the accident should not have happened at all, because in the area of ​​the accident site the B 126 is protected by a danger sign “rolled gravel”, a no-overtaking sign and a speed limit of 30 km/h. until road repair work.
