Britain’s King Charles III thanked police after the right-wing extremist riots. A palace spokesman said he had called Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the police, who informed him of the situation.
Police and rescue workers would do everything they could “to restore peace to the areas affected by violent unrest”, the spokesman said. At the same time, Charles was “very encouraged by the many examples of community spirit”. The aggression and criminality of a minority were offset by the passion and resilience of the majority.
When it no longer poses an additional burden for the police, Charles will visit the areas affected by the riots, it was said.
Many injured
As reported, right-wing extremist riots in English cities kept the country in suspense for days. The cause was a fatal knife attack in Southport near Liverpool. A teenager murdered three primary school-age girls and injured other people (see video above). Security forces were then attacked, asylum seekers’ housing, mosques and shops were attacked. People were repeatedly injured.
The situation has calmed down
A rumor spread on social media that the perpetrator was Muslim. According to the police, his parents are from Rwanda. On Wednesday, thousands of people took to the streets in various cities to protest the violence. The situation has calmed down since then.
As of Friday, some 740 people had been arrested in connection with the riots. More than 300 were charged and dozens were sentenced to prison terms, some of which lasted several years. “His Majesty hopes that shared values of mutual respect and understanding will further strengthen and unite the nation,” the palace spokesman said Friday.
