The 73-year-old motorcyclist was on the road in the municipality of Lustenau at 2 p.m. on Thursday. A garbage truck drove in front of him. The motorcyclist wanted to overtake him. However, during this maneuver he may have overlooked the protective island in the middle of the runway. The man hit the curb of the traffic island with the front wheel of his bicycle. The 73-year-old fell to the ground and slid about 50 meters further down the road. He had to be taken by helicopter to Feldkirch hospital with serious injuries.
His bicycle was thrown into a parking lot, crashed into a parked car and was badly damaged. Hohenemser Strasse was completely closed between 2:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. during the recording of the accident.
