A heat wave, which according to weather experts could last until early next week, will cause high summer temperatures.
At Corpus Christi, the sun and hot temperatures of up to 30 degrees dominated. However, isolated thunderstorms can also occur during the day. By the weekend it will be significantly warmer with up to 35 degrees. Temperatures are rising, especially in the west of the country.
Warm days in June double since 1960
The number of days with at least 30 degrees (warm days) in June has doubled or quadrupled in Austria’s low-lying areas in recent decades, according to an analysis by ZAMG. In the provincial capitals, for example, there were on average one or two warm days in June in the period 1961 to 1990. Between 1991 and 2020 there were between two (Bregenz) and five (Innsbruck) warm days.
Innsbruck is at the top with 17 warm days in June 2019.
