the VHungary’s 4-0 victory over England in Tuesday’s Nations League match at Molineux in Wolverhampton dominated the front pages of the Magyar press on Wednesday, describing the national team’s success as “historic” and celebrating it as a “miracle”.
“Hungary brought England to its knees” headlines Magyar Nemzet, while for Nemzeti Sport the match that ended 0-4 on Tuesday in Wolverhampton (United Kingdom) was “The victory of the century”.
“Miracle in England: a record of 69 years has been broken”, highlights the Hvg.hu portal in its analysis, alluding to the victory of the Hungarian gold team of Ferenc Pukás and Sándor Kocsis in 1953, when the Magyars beat the English in London (3-6).
“The Hungarian team made history on Tuesday afternoon,” said Nemzeti Sport, noting that the Hungarian team leads Group A of the Nations League, dubbed “death”, ahead of Germany, Italy and England.
For Nemzeti Sport, the “team unity” achieved by Italian coach Marco Rossi, who has led the team since 2018, is the key to success.
“The only question now is what are we going to do with the rest of our lives,” Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, asked himself in a brief statement on that medium, after visiting the players after the game in the locker room.
“I don’t know what to say. No one would have thought we could score 4 in England,” Roland Sallai, who scored 2 of the Hungarian’s 4 goals, said on Hungarian channel M4.
Portal 24.hu recalls that “England have never lost a home game by more than 4 goals without scoring” and featured that Hungary won by better exploiting the possibilities than their rivals.
Hungary’s next game is in September against Germany, where they will play for the top of the group, before the series ends against Italy.
