A Russian airstrike on Kiev on Sunday evening killed a man (35) and his child (4) and injured three people. The Ukrainian air force had previously said that two Russian missiles were heading for the capital. Meanwhile, the governor of the western Russian border region of Kursk reported that 13 people had been injured as a result of a Ukrainian airstrike.
Missile parts fell on private homes in Brovary, east of Kiev, in the evening, Ukrainian rescue services said on Telegram. The father and child were trapped under the rubble of a building. They could only be rescued dead. There were mixed reports about the child’s gender.
The city’s air defense systems have been activated
As journalists reported, explosions were heard in the city center and east. At least two lightning flashes were seen in the night sky. Kiev’s military administration and Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city’s air defense systems were activated to repel the attacks.
Airstrikes have been warned in most regions of Ukraine, as shown on the map in this post:
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, in addition to Kiev, other Ukrainian regions were also hit by Russian airstrikes. The air force said there were drone strikes in five other regions.
13 injured in the city of Kursk
At least 13 people were injured in the Russian city of Kursk by debris from a Ukrainian rocket, two of them seriously. Debris from a fired rocket fell on the building and caused a fire, Russian state news agency Tass reported, citing the region’s acting governor, Alexei Smirnov.
Kiev advanced several dozen kilometers into the Kursk region
In response to the five-day advance of the Ukrainian army in the western Russian border region of Kursk, fears were raised about possible Russian airstrikes in Ukraine. According to independent observers, the Ukrainian army has advanced several dozen kilometers in the Kursk region since the beginning of its advance on Tuesday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the offensive for the first time in his evening speech on Saturday, saying Kiev was trying to “shift” the war to Russia.
Russia launches massive drone and missile attacks on cities in Ukraine almost every night. Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression since February 2022. President Zelensky has been urging allies for weeks to quickly deliver new air defense systems.
