It looks like the animal is pushing the back of the car down with its force: for the eighth day in a row, an animal artwork by Banksy has appeared in London. The mysterious street artist published a photo of the rhino on his Instagram account – in this way, the Briton acknowledged his actions. Publishing so many works in a short time is new for the mysterious artist.
The rhino – sprayed in typical Banksy style on a wall in the east of the British capital – looks like it wants to climb onto a broken-down car. There is a traffic cone on the bonnet of the car, which also makes it look a bit like a rhino.
Artworks so far without explanation
For a week now, Banksy has been surprising people with a new animal artwork every day – so far he has not given a title or explanation for this ‘zoo’.
First, an ibex appeared at Kew in south-west London, and the next day, two elephants appeared in Chelsea, west London. Since then, three monkeys, a wolf, pelicans, a cat and finally – on the windows of a police station – a swarm of piranhas have followed. Londoners are waiting with bated breath to see what happens next for the zoo.
Cat on board has been removed
Two of the works have already disappeared: the cheerfully sprawling cat that Banksy spray-painted on a dilapidated billboard on a street in northwest London was taken down after a short time, allegedly for safety reasons. The owner has promised to donate the cat to an art gallery. Several men dismantled the howling wolf that was spray-painted on a satellite dish in the Peckham district of southeast London. It appears to have been stolen.
Although his artworks fetch millions at auction, Banksy’s identity is still a secret. The artist is from Bristol – that’s all that is known. There is always speculation about his real name. But so far without confirmation.
