A shipwreck off the South Korean island of Jeju claimed the lives of two people. Another twelve crew members of a fishing boat are missing. A total of 15 men were rescued.
Two of them were taken to hospital unconscious and later pronounced dead. Rescue efforts are still ongoing.
The coast guard said it received a distress call at 4:33 a.m. reporting that the 129-ton fishing boat was sinking. The ship suddenly capsized and sank while the catch was being transferred to a transport ship. At the time, two people were in the ship and the rest were on deck.
18 boats and five aircraft in use
According to the Coast Guard, 18 boats and five aircraft were deployed to the scene for search and rescue efforts. The South Korean Navy is sending six more ships, a patrol plane and a helicopter.
