Wiles, 67, was the Republican candidate’s campaign manager. The adviser has kept a low profile and away from the cameras, and her moderation in the face of Trump’s outbursts is striking.
The President-elect of the United States (US), Republican Donald Trumpannounced this on Thursday Susie Wileshis shadow campaign manager, will serve as his White House chief of staff for his second term, which begins January 20, 2025.
Wiles (New Jersey, 1957) becomes the first female chief of staff, one of the most important positions in the US government, responsible for coordinating the members of the presidential cabinet.
This is the first appointment Trump has announced since he defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in last Tuesday’s elections.
“Susie Wiles helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of my successful 2016 and 2020 campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.
The New York tycoon has described Wiles as a woman “strong, intelligent, innovative and universally admired and respected”“It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie become the first female Chief of Staff in the history of the United States. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud,” he stressed.
As Trump delivered his first victory speech on Tuesday, the future president publicly thanked Wiles for his work during this period. “Let me express my immense gratitude for the work that Susie and Chris (LaChivita) have done [ambos directores de la campaña republicana]. “Susie likes to stay in the background, but she is not in the background,” he said at the time.
An advisor facing difficulties
Wiles is a veteran of Florida politics. He already led Trump’s campaign in that state in 2016 and helped Ron DeSantis win the gubernatorial election in Florida in 2018.
According to NBC News, Wiles, daughter of legendary NFL player Pat Summerall, is “accustomed to adversity.” In the early 1990s, he told his father, an alcoholic, that he was ashamed of his public behavior and the athlete admitted that the letter she sent him was the deciding factor in him quitting drinking.
Wiles was also the personal secretary to Secretary of Labor Raymond Donovan when he was investigated for his alleged ties to the mafia. Donovan ultimately resigned after the special prosecutor declined to charge him.
