A major earthquake struck eastern Russia on Sunday night (21:10 CET). The European earthquake monitoring station EMSC recorded a magnitude of 7.2 off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Other sources speak of 7.1 or 7.
The epicenter of the earthquake was under the Pacific Ocean at a depth of about 51 kilometers. In Russia it was Sunday morning (7:00 am). Experts are monitoring the situation, but there was no information about possible deaths, injuries or damage during the night.

The US tsunami center has issued a warning for the North Pacific. Tsunamis are a recurring phenomenon, particularly in Southeast Asia. In Europe, Norway is also at risk.
