On Saturday night, a fire broke out in the Ferris wheel at the Highfield Festival near Leipzig. Thirty people were injured, two of them seriously. A reporter reported that two gondolas went up in flames.
Around 9pm they caught fire. The fire department said people were gradually being removed from the Ferris wheel and brought to safety. The two affected gondolas burned out completely, but the situation is now under control.

The Red Cross operations manager said 30 people were injured, two seriously, including four police officers who suffered minor injuries from smoke fumes.
About an hour after the fire broke out, festivalgoers were told that the victims were doing well considering the circumstances. They were taken to a hospital.
Program interrupted
Why the fire broke out was initially unclear. At that moment, German rapper Ski Aggu was performing. The program was temporarily interrupted, but continued at 22:30 with a performance by musician Cro.
Police have not yet released any information about the accident. The rock and pop festival is taking place in the Störmthaler See in the German state of Saxony.
