The Croatian Tourism Center in Vienna expects a “very good” season in 2024 and (even) more guests from Austria. It could even be a record, because at the end of May there were already twelve percent more guests and six percent more overnight stays. It is no surprise that Croatia, together with Italy, is the most popular travel destination for Austrians: it offers access to the Adriatic Sea and can be reached within a few hours’ drive.
In times when long-distance travel is no longer affordable for many, these are two important points: ÖAMTC’s travel monitoring shows that 60 percent of respondents would like to have a holiday by the water this year. Families in particular prefer to travel by car (82 percent). And that is where the problem begins for many people: endless traffic jams that cause so much stress that you need your holiday even more urgently.
