New POWs – Ukrainian Army Steps Up Offensive in Russia

Date:

A week and a half after the start of its offensive, the Ukrainian army has stepped up its attacks in several Russian regions (see video above). Among other things, the Kawkas oil supply was hit. Falling debris caused a large fire.

The local governor announced this. The incident took place on Sunday in the Rostov region in southern Russia. The Ukrainian army says it attacked the oil storage facility with drones because it supplied Russian forces, among other things.

The latest Ukrainian attacks came during an attack on western Russia. The offensive in the Kursk region began unexpectedly on August 6. According to army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, more than 1,000 square kilometers and 82 towns have been captured so far, including the strategically important town of Sudya, about ten kilometers outside the Russian border. It is an important gas hub for the Russian company Gazprom, through which Russian gas can be transported to Europe via Ukraine.

Zelenskyi: Positions strengthened
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that the soldiers had managed to further strengthen their positions in the region. The offensive was going “exactly as expected.” It was possible to “replenish the foreign exchange reserve for our country.” He was referring to captured Russian troops.

The new initiative is intended to convince the war opponent to participate in a “fair negotiation process.” Since the end of World War II, no foreign army has been on Russian territory.

Kremlin: No negotiations
“There were and are no direct or indirect negotiations between Russia and the Kiev regime on the security of civilian critical infrastructure,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made clear. The only contacts between the two countries are between intermediaries in the humanitarian field, for example in the exchange of prisoners and the transfer of missing children.

Busy in the East
Russian military bloggers describe the situation in Kursk as tense. At home, Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region in the east are under pressure. Russian attacks on the capital Kiev continued unabated over the weekend. The city was attacked with North Korean-made missiles.

The Kremlin also reported the capture of another village near the city of Pokrovsk, a key supply center for Ukrainian troops. A Ukrainian attack in the east killed two people.
