Fire alarm at the postal logistics center in Vomp in the Tyrolean district of Schwaz. In the parking lot, a company van suddenly caught fire after an employee had started it. The fire brigade arrived; the vehicle was a total loss.
At around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, an employee started the van parked in the logistics center’s parking lot to charge its weak battery, police said.
“A short time later, for unknown reasons, a fire suddenly broke out in the engine compartment of the vehicle. All attempts by employees to extinguish the fire failed,” the investigators said. The fire department was called.
E-charging station also damaged
Eventually they were able to quickly get the fire under control and extinguish it, but according to the police the van was a total loss.
In addition, a nearby electric charging station was damaged by the heat. However, the transporter was not an electric vehicle, the driver emphasized. The extent of the damage caused cannot yet be quantified.
