Commonly referred to as a tank due to its striking design and solid stainless steel body, Tesla’s Cybertruck can withstand even smaller projectiles. With 857 horsepower, it’s a missile in its own right, and as a Russian propaganda vehicle, it can fire too – because it’s heavily armed.
No one will be able to drive the Cybertruck anytime soon, as it is unlikely to be registered. But Putin’s bloodhound Ramzan Kadyrov won’t even let international sanctions stop him from organizing one. In a Telegram video, it sounds like he wants to use it in the war of aggression against Ukraine. While it is unlikely that this will happen, some of the vehicle’s features make it seem suitable for such a gruesome mission.
First, there are the weapons. Mounted on the cargo hold is a “super heavy machine gun” from the manufacturer NSW, which has been built in what is now Russia since 1972. Weighing 25 kilograms unloaded, the conveyor belt box contains 50 rounds of 12.7 x 108 mm caliber, which are fed in via a conveyor belt. Theoretically, the weapon can fire 750 rounds per minute, but after 100 rounds the barrel must cool down or be replaced.
The vehicle itself is suitable for off-road use thanks to a ground clearance of over 40 centimetres with the air suspension fully extended. It can also roll through water up to 80 centimetres deep. But not just like that: you have to activate a corresponding mode and wait for about ten minutes. The reason: overpressure is created in the battery, so that no water can penetrate.
The 5.68-meter-long, 3.1-ton heavyweight (without machine gun) is also fast: it reportedly reaches 100 km/h in under 2.9 seconds and can reach a speed of over 200 km/h. Depending on the version, the trailer load is up to 5 tons. The batteries should last for over 500 kilometers.
How bulletproof is the Cybertruck?
In the vehicle, you should be able to survive even an attack with 9 mm caliber firearms without being injured. The fact that the “body and windows are bulletproof”, as even Tesla’s PR man spread during an event in Vienna, is just a rumor. The fact is: the discs are relatively break-resistant, but have little resistance to a bullet. And the plates can only withstand the named calibers in those places where they have the full thickness of 1.8 millimeters, for example on the doors. And even there it depends on the type of ammunition; the caliber alone is not decisive.
This is where the Cybertruck really has to fight
In this regard, the armed Cybertruck is not so much fighting on the battlefield, but rather in the propaganda war against the West. The question is: how did Kadyrov get the Tesla? Ultimately, he was hit with heavy sanctions that were supposed to make it impossible for him to own a Western vehicle. He seems to want to give the impression that Tesla boss Elon Musk personally gave him the Cybertruck: “Elon, thank you! I express my sincere gratitude to Elon Musk! This is of course the strongest genius of our time and a specialist. A great man!”
In the video, Kadyrov drives the armed electric vehicle through the Chechen capital Grozny and can be heard saying: “A truly invulnerable and fast animal.”
In fact, the video is meant as propaganda against the West and to make clear that the rich and powerful in Russia have their possibilities to circumvent the sanctions. Friendly foreign countries support the warmongers and intermediaries organize the import. Kadyrov can appeal to the United Arab Emirates, among others.
This is Ramzan Kadyrov
Kadyrov has been called Putin’s bloodhound, torturer or butcher. The 47-year-old is internationally criticized for serious human rights violations. Civil rights activists also accuse the ardent supporter of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin of murdering political opponents, torturing prisoners and kidnappings. The ruler himself appoints family members to public office and, with the tacit approval of the Kremlin, repeatedly and demonstratively breaks the law. In addition to the clip for the Cybertruck, Kadyrov also distributed footage of Ukrainian war victims and prisoners.
