As an extra measure against inflation, there will be a free month for all climate map users from July. The promotion applies to new customers as well as to an extension of the public transport card. “Particularly in times of high fuel prices, public transport is a climate-friendly and cost-effective alternative,” emphasized Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) in a broadcast.
If you buy a climate map for the whole of Austria from the beginning of July to the end of December 2022, you can use it for 13 months instead of 12 months at no extra cost. For those who already have a climate card for the whole of Austria and want to renew it after one year, the promotion is valid until the end of June 2023.
Saving of 91 euros
This is “quick and straightforward help against inflation,” Gewessler said. The free 13th month with the climate ticket for 1095 euros means a saving of just over 91 euros. For young people, seniors and people with disabilities, the climate ticket costs 821 euros, so the “climate month” yields a saving of just over 68 euros, with the Austrian “climate card family” for 1205 euros it is just over 100 euros. The campaign also applies to installments, the broadcast says.
Since its introduction in October last year, more than 168,000 climate tickets have been sold – far more than initially expected.
