Once again, someone underestimated a mountain hike: a German couple got lost in Tyrol’s Karwendel Mountains on Monday night and had no choice but to call for help. During an eight-hour operation during the night, the alert mountain rescuers brought the couple back to the valley unharmed.
It wasn’t until around 6:00 PM (!) that the couple – two Germans aged 34 and 35 – left the Pleisenhütte in Scharnitz for the tour. Apparently, it would go via the Toni-Gaugg-Höhenweg to the Blassengrat.
No progress: emergency call made
The climb took longer than planned. And then night fell. “Due to the darkness and the fog, the two lost their way. They ended up in steep gullies, alternating with gravel. Eventually it was no longer possible to go any further and they made an emergency call,” the police reported.
For rescue workers it was not until early in the morning that “the job was over”
The Scharnitz mountain rescue team eventually joined the Germans and “led them unharmed to the Scharnitz mountain rescue center in an operation that lasted from 22:00 to 05:45,” the investigators concluded.
