The only private island in San Francisco Bay has a new owner. Red Rock Island is a remote 15-acre island accessible only by boat or helicopter. It lacks amenities like electricity and running water.
It can also be difficult to get official approval for such installations, Der Spiegel reported online on Wednesday. Three districts are also responsible for building a building.
Apparently, all this did not deter the new owner. According to the report, he probably had to pay much less for Red Rock Island than expected. The stone was originally asked for $25 million (equivalent to 22.34 million euros).

The sale process had dragged on. Many interested parties visited Red Rock, including people from the area. The current owner of the island, Brock Durining, inherited the island from his father, a real estate investor. According to his own statement, he needs the money to take care of his mother.
Red Rock was used in the 19th century for hunting fur animals, among other things. The island has changed owners several times. Major plans were announced repeatedly but never implemented, such as a 20-storey hotel.
The new buyer wishes to remain anonymous and has not yet revealed what he plans to do with the private island.
